Sarkar Raj

sarkar rajRenowned Indian film director Ram Gopal Varma retrieved his glorious kingdom of talent, creativity and achievements giving the taste of true Indian Cinema through his recent movie Sarkar Raj. Starring indian film icons Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the film was premiered at International Indian Film Awards (IIFA) 2008 in Bangkok on June, 6, creating a global audience.

Sarkar Raj is based on a strong political performance of treachery, revenge, passion, courage, love or relationships and is to all intents and purposes a study of power; it explores the politics of development and takes a fresh look at the tradition versus modernity dispute.

Legend actor Amitabh played the vital role as (Shubash Sarkar Nagre) in the first half of the movie while his son Abhishek attracted the audience performing his brilliant performance rest of the time.

The story of the movie revealed that Anita Ranjan (Aishwarya Rai) Chief Executive Officer of the International Company, Sheppard Power Plant proposes a power plant project, which is to be setup in rural Maharastra at a land owned by Sarkar.

Sarkar disapproves the projects as the land chosen is home to over 40,000 villagers, including the residence of Sarkar's mentor Rao Saab. Shankar Nagre (Abhishek Bachchan) son of Sarkar Nagre is quick to realise all the benefits the power plant can bring to the people of Maharastra and to the growth of the state.

After convincing his father Sarkar and asking Rao Saab, Anita and Shanker get sanctioned for the project. Shankar undertakes a journey along with Anita to the villages of Maharashtra to mobilize support from the villagers.

The dream however, faded as things are not what they seem to be and Shankar's dream project gradually becomes a political minefield and transforms into a political battle field of power and corruption.

Sarkar's enemies, two political leaders, Hassan Qazi and deputy Chief Minister Kanga, who make plans to get rid of Sarkar through power plant gang up to bring down the Sarkar legacy and displace Shankar. He has taken power over inherited.

A political character Sanjay Somji who matches real life Raj Thackeray (...in looks) is expert at provoking villagers against the project and one day the political rivalry leads to explosion in Shankar's car leaving his kid expecting wife kill.

Repeated disfavour incidents causing a heart attack of Sarkar and he admit to a hospital where he has meeting with the newsmen.

On the other hand, Anita falls in love with already married Shankar and she later faces Shankar's wife over the accusation of her alleged relation with Shankar.

Varma again proves his eligibility sketching a true political drama of India. The movie is blown up with excellent performance by legend Amitabh Bachchan, expectedly, comes up with a terrific performance. The super star as ferocious as a wounded tiger in the climax and takes the film to towering stage.

His son Abhishek Bachchan is cast opposite the finest actor of this country, yet he sparkles in every sequence as the father and son go neck to neck as far as acting honours go.

Aishwarya is fabulous and delivers her career-best performance spreading her looks, but not much space has been devoted to her performances. But she got better day by day.

The other sidekicks and usual henchmen Dilip Prabhawalkar, Govind Namdev, Sayaji Shinde, Ravi Kale, Supriya Pathak and Tanisha in the story add a degree of realism, comedy and depth to the movie which makes it an attention-grabbing creation of the creator.

The actor enacting the role of Dilip Prabhawalkar's grandson makes a tremendous impact.

The background sounds ‘Govinda ...Govinda' in the film definitely inspiration of arts. Time to time many twists and turns the story gets to the climax enlightening the actual plot behind all the performance.

The screenplay by Prashant Pandey's is appealing; background by Amar Mohile's is brilliant; Amit Roy's cinematography is outstanding and remarkable.

Sarkar Raj has been mostly shot in Indian village based of locations. The close-up shots, in abundance throughout the movie, have been captured and performed well. The editing is crisp and luminous. Allan Amin, as action director in minimal doses, is perfect. Music is average and acceptable.

In conclusion, the audience, who were disappointed enjoying the last attempt of Ram Gopal Varma, will regain their confidence on him as he has tried his best to make up with his mistakes in previous films and done justice to a sequel of a good movie Sarkar Raj.
